Fort Wayne Ballet Hosts Benefit for Rob Borel

There are a lot of high profile artists in our community, people whose names and faces are familiar to arts patrons throughout the city. But there are many more who work just as hard, contribute just as much, and do so without much fanfare. Rob Borel, photographer and artist, is just such a person.

His work is particularly familiar to fans of Fort Wayne Ballet where he has taken photographs of dancers and rehearsals for many years. He would also drop in for classes which helped him grow trust and friendships with those he photographed. It is no surprise, therefore, that in his time of need Fort Wayne Ballet would step up to help him as he navigates a recent cancer diagnosis and the financial burdens that has brought.

On Saturday, February 4, the Ballet opens its studios for a benefit which will help Rob defray his costs, maintain his home, and battle against cancer.

“He is a longtime friend of the ballet and he is facing the biggest fight of his life,” said Karen Gibbons-Brown, artistic director of Fort Wayne Ballet. “The proceeds from that night will all go to Rob – 100% of the money raised will be a gift to Rob. All of the fees are underwritten. We’re hoping that Rob will be up to joining us for this event in his honor.”

Those who want to help – and enjoy some stellar dance in the process – are welcome to visit the Ballet studios 6-8 p.m. with a free will donation. Studio A will host performances from the ballet’s talented corps of dancers (6:45-7:15) while Studio B will provide some tasty morsels and beverages. Studio C will provide a glimpse into some of Rob’s best-known prints (many to benefit the ballet), while Studio D will allow visitors to see some of his film work.

For those who can’t attend that evening, donations can be made for a Go Fund Me page organized by Rob’s friends. Visit https://gofund.me/7ea4e21b to help.
