Fort Wayne Ballet Brings Firefly Tour to Northeast Indiana

Just days after helping the Fort Wayne Philharmonic close out their 2021-22 season with a performance of Romeo & Juliet, Fort Wayne Ballet hits the road for their second tour of outdoor venues in Northeast Indiana. Having had to curb some of their performance schedule in the last two years, the company were able to perform outdoors where more people felt comfortable assembling for a dance performance. Although it coincided with COVID restrictions, that was not the reason for launching the Firefly Tour last summer.

“We did start it last year, but it had been in our strategic plan for awhile,” said Karen Gibbons-Brown, artistic director of Fort Wayne Ballet. “It worked out in part because of COVID, but it was already part of the plan. But it was nice because a lot of people were more comfortable outside.”

The tour greatly resembles the one last year, with stops in Bluffton, Warsaw, Auburn, and Promenade Park in downtown Fort Wayne. This week Fort Wayne Ballet, which this year celebrated 65 years as the premier dance academy in Indiana, adds Angola to its list of performance sites.

“The performances will include a recap of some of our productions this season as well as our dancers’ choreography,” Gibbons-Brown said. “People can bring blankets or lawn chairs, and some people last year brought picnics. Last year some of the young ones came up after the performance and did some of the dance moves with the dancers. The children really enjoyed that.”

All performances are free and open to the public. To see Fort Wayne Ballet at a venue near you, visit one of these sites this week:
